RIGHT TO INFORMATION

Making information available to the citizens:

Under the Right to Information Act 2005 it is mandatory that prompt responses to citizen requests for government information must be made available. The Department of Personnel and Training, Ministry of Personnel, Public Grievances and Pensions also provides an – RTI Portal Gateway to the citizens for speedy search of information on the details of first Appellate Authorities, PIOs etc. amongst others, besides access to RTI related information / disclosures published on the web by various Public Authorities under the government of India as well as the State Governments.

Objectives of the RTI Act:

The main goals of the Right to Information Act are to give citizens more authority, to encourage accountability and openness in government operations, to combat corruption, and to truly make democracy work for the people. It goes without saying that an informed citizen is better able to maintain the essential watchfulness on the tools of governance and increase the accountability of the government to the citizens. The Act represents a significant advancement in educating the populace about government operations.
