I. Teachers and Their Responsibilities

Choosing teaching as a profession requires teachers to conduct themselves in a manner that reflects the ideals of the profession. Teachers are always observed by their students and society, and hence, they must ensure their actions align with their teachings. They should embody national educational ideals and strive to instill these in their students. Essential qualities for teachers include calmness, patience, effective communication, and amiability.

Teachers should:

  1. Follow a responsible conduct pattern expected by the community.
  2. Manage personal affairs to uphold the profession’s dignity.
  3. Continuously grow professionally through study and research.
  4. Freely express opinions at professional gatherings to contribute to knowledge.
  5. Actively participate in professional organizations to enhance education and the profession.
  6. Diligently perform teaching, tutorials, practicals, seminars, and research.
  7. Avoid plagiarism and unethical behavior in teaching and research.
  8. Adhere to the University’s Act, Statute, and Ordinance, respecting its ideals, vision, mission, and traditions.
  9. Cooperate with college and university educational responsibilities, including admission processes, student counseling, and examination duties.
  10. Engage in extension, co-curricular, and extra-curricular activities, including community service.

II. Teachers and Students

Teachers should:

  1. Respect students’ rights and dignity in expressing their opinions.
  2. Treat all students impartially regardless of religion, caste, gender, or socioeconomic background.
  3. Recognize and cater to the diverse aptitudes and capabilities of students.
  4. Encourage students to excel and develop their personalities while contributing to community welfare.
  5. Instill scientific temper, inquiry spirit, democratic ideals, patriotism, social justice, environmental protection, and peace among students.
  6. Treat students with dignity and avoid vindictive behavior.
  7. Assess students solely based on merit.
  8. Be accessible to students beyond class hours for guidance without expecting remuneration.
  9. Help students understand national heritage and goals.
  10. Avoid inciting students against others.

III. Teachers and Colleagues

Teachers should:

  1. Treat colleagues as they wish to be treated.
  2. Speak respectfully to and assist other teachers for professional betterment.
  3. Avoid making baseless allegations against colleagues to higher authorities.
  4. Refrain from considering caste, creed, religion, race, or gender in professional matters.

IV. Teachers and Authorities

Teachers should:

  1. Fulfill their professional duties according to existing rules and seek to change any detrimental rules through institutional or professional bodies.
  2. Avoid other employment or commitments, like private tuitions, that interfere with their professional responsibilities.
  3. Cooperate in policy formulation and accept related responsibilities.
  4. Collaborate with authorities for institutional betterment while maintaining professional dignity.
  5. Adhere to contract terms and give due notice before changing positions.
  6. Avoid taking leave except for unavoidable reasons and preferably with prior notice to complete academic schedules.

V. Teachers and Non-Teaching Staff

Teachers should:

  1. Treat non-teaching staff as colleagues and equal partners in the institution’s operations.
  2. Support the functioning of joint-staff councils involving both teaching and non-teaching staff.

VI. Teachers and Guardians

Teachers should:

  1. Ensure institutions maintain contact with students’ guardians, provide performance reports when necessary, and hold meetings for mutual benefit and idea exchange.

VII. Teachers and Society

Teachers should:

  1. Recognize education as a public service and inform the public about educational programs.
  2. Work to improve community education and strengthen its moral and intellectual life.
  3. Be aware of social issues and participate in activities that promote societal progress.
  4. Fulfill citizenship duties, engage in community activities, and take on public office responsibilities.
  5. Avoid activities that foster hatred or enmity among different groups and actively work for national integration.
